Welcome Remarks

At the time of this writing Japan is recovering steadily from the recent earthquake and tsunami in Tohoku that claimed many human lives, caused major injuries and immeasurable damages. The iPOP2011 organizing committee made a judicious decision to hold the conference as was planned during June 2-3, 2011 at the NEC Tamagawa facility in Kawasaki, Kanagawa, and make it possible once more to bring the IP and optical technology community together. We are thankful to NEC for hosting iPOP 2011 in their facility and their immense support.

This is the seventh year for iPOP International Conference, which has been sponsored by PIL and Isocore since its inception. We are delighted to extend a warm welcome to all participants and thank them for their support. The conference has clearly established itself as the key event for the optical transport and IP networks.

The iPOP2011 International Conference addresses important topics and issues related to Optical Transport Networks and IP Networking. This year, the technical program committee has put together an exciting program consisting of technical sessions with emphasis on presentations on Automatically Switched Optical Network (ASON), Wavelength Switched Optical Network (WSON), Path Computation Element (PCE) and its applications, Packet Transport over Optical, and several other important additional topics.

We hope that you would be able to plan to attend and enjoy iPOP2011 and make this event a great success! We look forward to your participation and support.
